I have directed more than 60 student and group tours to Washington, D.C. and New York City over the past 16 years. Sometimes I take photos for our marketing team to use on websites, social media, and marketing materials. My goal is to take photos that are emotive, on-location, and tons of fun.
November 11, 2021: I had the amazing opportunity to take photos of our group from the Crow Indian Reservation. They visited Washington, D.C. on the 100 year anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. On that day in 1921, it was Chief Plenty Coups of the Crow Tribe who laid his headdress and coup sticks into the tomb during the ceremony. 100 years later, the Chief Plenty Coups Honor Guard was there for this special ceremony.
After their visit to Arlington National Cemetery, the Honor Guard setup an impromptu powwow in front of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. Random visitors of the museum and National Mall on that day were treated to a variety of traditional Crow dances and their drum corps. It was an incredible honor that the students and the Honor Guard graciously allowed all of us to witness.
